An excerpt from an episode of World Wide Magazine, a public access TV show from St. Louis, MO. The show was created by the late Pete Parisi.

This segment features Vince and Marty, a famous duo of regulars from the show. They are walking across the old Chain of Rocks bridge which crosses the Mississippi River on the north side of St. Louis. It was the most famous crossing of Route 66 over the river, but because it is so narrow, the bridge closed in 1967 and was replaced by the New Chain of Rocks Bridge to its north. The bridge is now used by pedestrians and cyclists after a $4.5 million renovation. It was also used in 1981 in the film "Escape From New York" which was shot mainly in the St. Louis area for its run-down post-apocalyptic look.

The clip is mainly a music video for "Ol' Man River" but includes nice shots of the river and its surroundings.

  • @jmessntune Was just there today. You can see where graffiti once was and has sense been removed. But you can still see evidence of what was 'written'. And your statement is true about 'devil worshipers'. I won't ever go back. It was a cool experience for the Route 66 aspect of it and the overall history and architecture.....but that's it. My new husband and I had our worst argument ever on our way back to the car. Just bad vibes there. In memory of the Kerry sisters.

  • What dummies. Eads Bridge, Mckinley, Mcarthur, and Merchant;s bridge came way before the Chain Of Rocks.

  • @homer63109 You are quite welcome there Corporal Agarn !!!

  • @quickstraw94 Kerry Sisters, their cousin raped them and them through them off the bridge then he "fell off too" and blamed it all on African Americans, so typical.

  • @StLouisEarl Thank You Captain Obvious!!!!

  • The guy in the video is wrong. The COR Bridge was not the first to cross the Mississippi in MO & IL. It was the Eads Bridge, built long before this brige was even thought of.

  • ask me anything about this bridge ill tell ya

  • how I miss this old bridge and be careful dont go out there at nite...know devil worshipers are known to hang out there...well they did back in the day...lol...

  • I live in Bend Oregon now and how funny its the birth place of Kurt Russell

  • I hung out on this bridge growing up in Granite City. It use to be closed and would get in big trouble if caught on it but hey we were teenagers...lol...we would climb down into the manholes and party on the pillers over the river. the film with Kurt Russell Escape from new york was filmed on this bridge. All my friends lived on the island shoto island till the floods of 93
