  • @Johnlindsey289 Yes, New York Ripper is a very sick, sleazy, nasty, perverted and totally disgusting film in every way to me. It's my least favorite Fulci film.

  • @TheAltair4

Do you think The New York Ripper is sexist, depraved torture porn? i mean a wacko stabbing chicks in the pussy with a broken bottle, cutting people's nipples and eyes with a razor during torture etc.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Fight Club is a funny and violent dark satire in the tradition of A Clockwork Orange and Natural Born Killers and isn't really porn of any kind whatsoever. It's art, in fact, and is one of my all time favorite films. There are far worse torture films than Saw and Hostel, to be sure, but i don't find any of them to be much fun at all to watch myself. I can handle the gore aspect just fine but i just don't find people being brutally tortured to death fun or entertaining in any way.

  • @TheAltair4

Hostel is mild stuff and was a fun movie, now Men Behind The Sun, Salo, The New York Ripper, Cannibal Ferox/Holocaust, In a Glass Cage, Martyrs, Ichi The Killer, Ilsa She-wolf of the SS etc. are much worse torture films.

If Hostel is considered Torture porn, then is Fight Club "Macho Porn" like Roger Ebert described in his review?

  • @Johnlindsey289 I don't agree. I'll take a fun, suspenseful and entertaining slasher over yet another tiring and dismally depressing torture porn any day of the week. It's high time for horror cinema to return to it's glory days once again and more Saw and Hostel type films aren't going to help it get there any sooner. Pirahna 3D was a major step in the right direction, i must say, and the sequel will hopefully be as good if not better. Eli Roth is a terrible actor imo (Death Proof anyone? lol).

  • @TheAltair4

Torture Porn is to 9/11 while late 60's and 70's horror is to vietnam. Eli Roth is doing Stephen King's Cell next, he was terrific in Inglorious Bastards and Piranha 3D. I thought Scream 4 was disappointing because Scream doesn't belong in this century and should have stayed a trilogy as intended, no need to beat a dead horse. Sort of like how the Saw franchise ended last year. Piranha The sequel comes out this november and should improve over Cameron's stinker, don't you think?

  • @Johnlindsey289 I think the "torture porn" craze was more of a radical cinematic response to the horrific aftermath of 9/11 more than anything else really. That was then and this is now though and mainstream horror cinema is finally starting to become great once again. John Carpenter's The Ward is an excellently creepy 80's style horror film that is destined to become a classic. Scream 4, Hobo With a Shotgun and The Trollhunter were all quite a lot of fun as well and The Thing looks promising.

  • @TheAltair4

Cabin Fever was great fun and i own the unrated blu-ray that has the uncut version. Do you think the so-called "torture Porn" craze of yesterday was a radical response to the soft 90's teen slasher flicks that tried to ape Scream? horror fans grew bored of the Scream wannabes then in 2002 it died with Halloween resurrection being the nail in the coffin. In 2003 the year for gore was Cabin Fever, Wrong Turn and Freddy vs. Jason to Final destination 2 violent horror back

  • @Johnlindsey289 Yes, and it also shares similarities to Witchfinder General and Mark of the Devil.

  • @TheAltair4

CF was loads of fun. Does this movie remind you of shockers like Cannibal Ferox, Maniac, Ilsa She-Wolf of the SS, Bloodsucking Freaks, Driller Killer and The New York Ripper? Eli Roth is a fan of those and made a comeback of those 70's torture shockers.
