LaSalleWSOC 5-2 Over St. Joe's Hawks (LA SALLE UNIVERSITY 2007)

La Salle used scores by five different women's soccer players to rout Atlantic-10 and perennial soccer seven foe Saint Joseph's by a 5-2 final. St. Joe's struck first very early in the game by setting up in the corner in the fourth minute. The score stayed at a 1-0 St. Joe's advantage at halftime even though La Salle had outshot the Hawks by a 15-3 margin. La Salle's first goal finally game on Dana Giordano's strike from 30 yards out that ricocheted off the crossbar. The rebound was deflected into the goal on a mishap by a St. Joe's defender (own goal). La Salle then fell behind again, 2-1 late in the game on a fluke shot that took Melissa Sanger outside of the box in the 78th minute. La Salle had to dig this one out again, and found the equalizer with the assist of another Dana Giordano strike; this time it was a corner kick by Giordano which was netted by Traci DePasquale, her eighth of the season. With under three minutes remaining in regulation and the game still tied 2-2, La Salle pulled ahead on a series of three straight goals in rapid succession. Alex Conley beat the goalie Megan Bastianelli at the left post on a thru ball in the 87th minute. 37 seconds later, team captain Kristin Hextall scored her eighth goal of the season, going coast to coast on a feed from fellow senior Kim Lisun. 56 seconds later, Sara Copare found the back of the net after the Hawks had been stymied again. Freshman goalkeeper Melissa Sanger earned the victory with three saves. Coach Paul Royal's teams often create multiple scoring opportunities through superior defense and a strong midfield. La Salle also succeeds in scoring by committee, as evidenced here when they placed multiple scoring threats on the field simultaneously late in games.
