Funny thing is, in recent tests Chrysler products are getting SLAMMED for their lousy 5-speed automatic transmissions. That is, the MERCEDES 5-speed transmission that they are still required to use under contract. Even this long after the merger broke up, Mercedes is still raking Mopar over the coals. The 4th-Gen Viper? Stolen, it's the Mercedes SLS AMG now.
I would buy an Audi, a BMW, a Porsche, etc. I would not buy a Mercedes after what they did to my favorite American brand.

Lousiest.Commercial.Ever. And Mercedes-Benz makes cars for people who HATE cars, don't know a THING about cars and don't want to know anything about cars.

Actually you need to look deeper. The Transmission and the rear 5 link are NOT the only Mercedes parts in the LX platform. The electronics, the entire steering column, ESP system and much more. Platform sharing at it's best.

The suspension and the transmission is the ONLY German stuff. BUT the transmission is made in Kokomo, Indiana. So is that American too?
