Deh, Dinmi Tu
by Francesco Landini
Performed by Gothic Voices
Francesco Landini (c.1325? c.1335? - 1397) was a 14th century Florentine poet, singer, organ builder, instrument maker, and composer. Blind from childhood, he had an early and productive career as a composer, producing nearly a quarter of all surviving Italian secular music of the Trecento period. While there is evidence that he composed sacred music, it has unfortunately all been lost.
His musical language is quite unique, blending characteristics of the French and Italian styles and using the under-3rd cadence so consistently that it has since been known alternatively as the "Landini cadence". 154 works, mostly ballatas in two or three voices, can be attributed to him with certainty as well as a few more works of doubtful authenticity.
This recording is from the Gothic Voices recent CD, "A Laurel for Landini".

I used to sing it in Rome some years ago. One of the finest Landini's tunes.
