shyness or letting the others have a chance to speak maybe? Either that or he couldn't be bothered with Lettermans attempts to be witty (don't blame him).
i saw this on tv in 1983 and have been dying to see it again ever since ... it was the first time i'd heard them and the beginning of a great obsession ... thanks for posting it
He was very afraid of audiences. The reason he keeps his hair in front of his eyes was so he wouldnt need to see the crowd. and they didnt sell their souls. idk where you heard that.
he continues to use that same style until 1994. its called jangle. It is best used with the Rickenbacker 360, which he is using in this vid. Normally expensive, he bought one used for $175. I bought one a few months ago that was used by him. They are amazing, and I play the jangle style. Its fun to hear and even more fun to play
They had no idea that they ever were on top 40 when the album Document, this is Murmer, came out. They did not care for the money, which they did not have. yeah you see that expensive guitar Peter is holding. he bought it for $175 USED. they were considered underground and not a part of the mainstream machine. Before you rant on and on and say they fucked up something they didnt have at that time or even care about, get your facts straight. oh and they dont care for the money, only the music
What a disgrace REM are in hindsight. What a disgrace this Letter man gob shite. Obscure poetics to fool the masses. Shite, obvious guitar. Posture of intellectualism just phoney US propaganda. JUST WHAT IS DEEMED ALLOWED AT THE TIME. Utterly conservative in retrospect. The people that still stomach this bass amateurism are the lat to hold up
US foreign policy on stilts. You do not need a conspiracy where interests converge. Sussed people to mountain third party call. REM are establishment!!
