Full-length sound film in 1929 from a church group? You've got to be kidding me. Only huge film companies had the cash and resources to record sound film at that time, and even then it was EXTREMELY rare to have audio throughout the footage. It's possible, but extremely unlikely, so this clip must be from later than that.

Sound film was common in the late 1920's. Nearly every news reel company in the late 1920's was using sound film e.g. Movietone news, Gaumont news, and British Pathe, among many others. They were not full length films. Each story (such as this one) were just over a minute long. They showed disasters, short comedies, and general items of interest e.g. Watch this Movetone audio short - Music While You Swim! (1929).

You sure this is 1929, the footage and clarity of the audio seem remarkable for something of that vintage

It is. The condition of this footage is actually very poor. Many movies filmed in the 1890's-1930's have crystal clear quality.  It all depends on the brand used and how it was stored over the years. e.g. Metropolis from 1927 and the Jazz Singer are good examples.

I wasn't referring to all Christians. Just the ones who were pro slavery. The same churches whose members were officially against miscegenation as late as the mid 1960s.

The Southern Baptist Church is actually a splinter from an earlier denomination. They split off over slavery. The mother church was preaching that slavery was sinful. The Southern Baptists were made up of folks who wanted to keep slavery.

@GenoVox57 If by people like him you mean Christians, I think you'll find that the majority of the key abolitionists were in fact Christians be it Methodist, Baptist or in Britain the Quakers. All through out time and to the present day their has been religious extremists. Claiming that slavery would still be in force because all Christians were in favour of it would be like saying that all Muslims are terrorist bombers.

Billy Sunday was very famous. First as a baseball player and then as an evangelist, he was well known as both. He was in the news all the time back then and it would not be uncommon for him to be seen in the theaters. That is where people went to see the news back then.

@whizzles1 You are correct regarding religion but Billy Sunday had nothing to do with religion. Religion is an abomination to God. This man was a blood-bought child of God. He had received the gift of God's salvation purchased by the blood of Jesus and He was speaking the truth of God and not some religious garbage.
