When Aluminum metal is introduced to a solution of elemental bromine a violent reaction occurrs, white aluminum bromide smoke is produced along with bromine vapor.

the aluminum reacts with the bromine giving off white and red fumes of bromine and aluminum bromide.

no I didnt make this from a retort.

I made it by bubbling chlorine gas through a sodium bromide solution.
