CALF (Creating Academic Learning Future).

CALF Technology and Performance Playweek took place at Dartington College of Arts, UK between 8th and 11th Feb 2010.

Here's some background:
The field of Choreography at UCF/ Dartington Campus ran a THINKTANK together with the CALF research group (technology in education) and TLS staff last year, looking into technology in performance. The day consisted of student performances (3 of our final year students were working with technology) and an afternoon of discussion and debate.

One of the outcomes of that afternoon was the idea for a time of experimentation a studio set up with various bits of technology for both performers and technicians to spend time researching ideas and exploring possibilities. We have now set up a 4-day-long lab (or play-week) in week 8th Feb 2010. We will be in 2 studios at Aller Park (Dartington Campus) and five members of staff and technicians will come up from Falmouth to set up, run equipment and collaborate on ideas from Mon Thursday.

We thought it would be great to have a combination of a small number staff, students and practising artists who are interested in technology in performance to have time for dedicated research. In other words around 10-12 people can explore ideas in some depth rather than having large numbers of participants scratching the surface.

The technology on offer:
The technologies were planning to explore are aspects of physical computing including collaborative musical instruments, augmented reality and an interactive floor with aspects of computer vision. There will also be a session on using the new workspace collaborative system developed exclusively for UCF in conjunction with Learning Technology.
