one thing thats always got me with this and ive finaly remenbered to ask is what is the rod at 2:04 and what cuased that noise at 2:28

The rod was referring to the carriage plate rams - they rods on them are hollowed out so that the hydraulic connection is on the rod end, rather than on the bottom of the cylinder barrel - therefore the hoses don't keep moving back and forward as the packer cycles. Hence - no pipework to f**k up!
We were trying to make the ejector plate move forward when it was already fully forward, hence the hydraulics were stalling.

Yeah that's what that model is called today - but back in 1990 it was a Colectomatic 4000 (or Formula 4000 as it is called in the States).

Can't remember - think we had it fully retracted forward on the green one.
