This is a first look at the new open-source shooter, Red Eclipse.

Download here: http://www.redeclipse.net/

Description:
Red Eclipse is a Free and Open Source game, using SDL and OpenGL which allows it to be ported to many platforms; grab a development copy from our Subversion repository and live on the bleeding edge.

The game is a single-player and multi-player first-person ego-shooter, built as a total conversion of Cube Engine 2, which lends itself toward a balanced gameplay, completely at the control of map makers, while maintaining a general theme of agility in a variety of environments. For more information, please see our Chat.

In a true open source by the people for the people nature, it tries to work closely with the gaming and open source communities to provide a better overall experience, taking all sorts of feedback from your average player, to your seasoned developer, aiming to create a story-driven game environment that is flexible, fun, easy to use, and pleasing to the eye

  • Yes, it is intentional you can get up there. When the map was first created the top of the level was actually clipped off, but when we added the parkour mechanics and climbing/jetpacks became a consideration, I made the mappers like Wicked remove the clip from the top of their levels like here in deadsimple.

  • @qreeves Thanks for the answer! Are you a developer of the game or was that a custom map or something?

  • @256BitLeoneri Sure am, I am the creator of Red Eclipse :)

  • @qreeves Haha wow that is awesome! :)

  • Game is PERFECT. But I want to know, how do i make a map using the Editor...

  • @256BitLeoneri oh yeah someone helped me with this as well. I'm using Playclaw in half frame. but for it to come out looking half decent, i have to play in 1024 by 764, and as you already know, higher resoutions mean lower framerates lol

  • @Inpersona64 I recorded it with Fraps. I usually record half-screen, as that is just advice I have received in general, although I don't remember if I used half-screen for this game.

  • @BDGeist XFire doesnt support this game, yet. Fraps takes up 98% of my processing powerand WeGame is too much work. I tried Playclaw, and unfortunately, i can only record half-size because in fullsize, i get only 1-2 frames per second (and thats only on 800 by 600).

  • @Inpersona64 Try Fraps, WeGame, Xfire, or PlayClaw.

  • what do you use to record your gameplay?
