His gymnastic dance routine in Working Her Way Through College is an amazing feat of athleticism and art. Too bad no one has posted it on YouTube. It has to be seen to be believed.
I LOVED Gene Nelson. His last show was a production of 42nd Street, in San Jose, CA, at my high school in 1994. This series of video was almost like all of the conversations I had with Gene. He became like a grandfather to me and a mentor. I am a theatre director due mostly to him and what he taught me. He was an amazing man. I'll never forget him dancing onstage (which he claimed he no longer liked to do) before rehearsal, working out dance steps...beautiful.
