http://www.youtube.com/user/rodiel89 linked this awesome website on twitter. There is a bunch
of science songs on there. This one is from the album "Muscles and Magnets". It's about myofibrils to the tune of My Sharona by The Knack

This and other MP3s:

LYRICS:
Ooh my little filaments, filaments --
Actin and myosin myofibrils:
Proteins that are long and dense, long and dense,
Making up the structure of the myofibrils.

CHORUS:
Signal from the brain rides the nerve to the muscle,
Where the myosin inside will slide past the actin of the
My-my-my-y-y, woo! Muh-muh-muh-myofibrils.

Add a little calcium, calcium
To the cytoplasm near the myofibrils.
It will turn troponin on, troponin on,
Causing the contraction of the myofibrils.

CHORUS

Muscles need energy, energy,
Most of which is needed by the myofibrils.
Myosin burns ATP, ATP
Fueling the contractions of the myofibrils.

CHORUS

  • Really good song for exactly what I am trying to get across to my Anat students right now! I could use this in my class except for one short text box there towards the end. I guess I could always cut the song short but that would be too obvious. Could you create a classroom friendly version without that one textbox please???

  • @lostman1120

Of course, let me know frame it is. You can easily make your own slideshow with the images and things you want, or just play the song itself (probably better quality that way) by just getting the MP3 from the science groove website. See link in video description.

  • Thanks so much! It is the frame that says "Orgasm noises" at about the 3:32 mark, with the pic of the crazy banjo guy. I'll probably DL the song and work on something for next year, but this is my first year teaching Anat/Physio, so I am still working on developing some resources as not much was left by the previous teachers. I appreciate you doing this SO MUCH!!!

  • this song got me through my biology exam...thank you science grooves

  • Greg Crowther, who co-wrote this delightful and educational parody, has, with some assistance, created a new web-site for finding science and math songs. It's well worth bookmarking! Just search google for:

    Sing About Science

  • Wow, I wish I'd looked up these guys on YouTube ages ago,. Being only a dabbler in science, I could not make out some of the lyrics. And now I can! Thanks!
