if i stick my finger into the venus fly trap will it close and try to digest me??

Also im thinking about buying one, Do i need to feed it flies or will it attract its own flies? I heard one time that they have a layer of sweet nectar inside their jaws that attracts flies. Also how many flies does it eat?? how often would i have to put a fly into the leaves??

Its a plant, it cant digest you or anything, its inofensive to you. No, the plant attacts the flies itself with the nectar as you already know but they are not REALLY necessary so 3 or 4 a month should be more than fine.

It looks like you may need to transport your vft to a bigger pot; the roots look like they're pushing up the soil. Just a hunch, but other then that, very informative :3

@MrsRat2U The flower on a VFT will take a lot of the plants energy so if you want the traps to continue growing then it is advisable to cut the flower stem off. Or alternatively you could pollinate the flowers by rubbing some of the pollen on to the stigma so it will produce some seeds. Hope this helps

Ok. . .. I just got a vft for a gift from my boss. I love it. I love plants. I am so sad because I feel that I have already MESSED it up. I didn't know anything about dormant. SO I cut a hole in the top of the plant home and tried to catch a bug for it. and the flower.. the big tall thing in the middle. is not a flower YET.. but it is so tall.. It stands taller than a pencil.. maybe 12 CM. Please tell me what to do..thank you for your help
