Some bonus footage from the "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" DVD. Steve Sanders discusses his reaction to the film. He tries to explain that the movie portrays Billy negatively and that Billy is actually a nice guy.
@KingofGUI ... Billy was acting like a little child, but a week later they removed it because it couldn't be verified, and their judges said it looked extremely fake.
@KingofGUI Exactly. Billy is a completely arrogant asshole. Who thinks no one could ever beat him. When Steve sends in his tape, he says "we cant verify if it's true, and it's when you do it live that counts", but yet when Steve beats his score live, Billy sends in a tape, that doesn't show the cabinet and the person playing like TG rules says you have to, it only shows the screen which could have easily been MAME'd or messed with. The film shows TG adding his score because...
I have no doubt Billy is smart, but when you put him in front of a camera, he becomes a total douche... all you see is his arrogance in every video. Steve Sanders is a stand up guy, you could tell he figured out Steve Wiebe is a genuinely nice guy and a great person by the end of the documentary. Billy has these mannerisms you can't hide... he is a scared little boy and a coward by my standards.
@steveingvar that could be true, but he's still a mitchell fan, when steve entered to the restaurant, sanders said to billy "i don't how he managed to come in"
@greubermeister2 billy is an asshole... regardless of the editing he still avoided any contact with steve cause hes guilty about fucking him out of his first score...
@haibane13 I haven't seen that, but I'll consider it. But put yourself in his shoes, if a movie completely portrayed you as an asshole and single-handedly ruined your reputation, wouldn't you contradict what the movie says to get some respect back? He was probably just trying to retaliate. I don't know, he could be a jackass, but I like to see all the facts before I judge a person.
@greubermeister2 From interviews done after the film was released , Billy Mitchell is the asshole he is portrayed in the film . There is an interview where he tried to "set the record straight" and acted like the asshole he is , and even lied about the events portrayed in the film to try and make himself look better .
@greubermeister2 yeah dawg. i understand why people don't like billy, i dont like him at all after watching king of kong. but i seriously dont understand why so many people hate sanders. if anything sanders was extra good because he was on billy's side, but started calling billy out and then befriended Wiebe. he was def on wiebe's side. u know what i mean, i just dont get why all these people dont like sanders. its like they haven't even watched king of kong

So Billy Mitchell's charitable contributions come back to his narcissism of his own self-perceived greatness?
