http://www.socialistworker.co.uk Opening speech from Mike's public meeting on Where is the Venezuelan Revolution going? Attended by over 200 people in central London on Wednesday 14th November 2007. Organised by the Socialist Workers Party.
They don't want to listen because they haven't seen the food shortages.
What they don't understand is that all these stupid programs cost too much which causing inflation to go through the fucking roof. Then the gov tries to use price control, but that causes manufactures and food producers to operate at a loss so they stop selling.
They just sit in their nice little world that capitalism created and bitch and moan about how evil it is.
Mike is a wonderful speaker and comrade. It was at a meeting in Glasgow over ten years ago that I first listened to him. I joined the Socialist Workers Party that night and have been ever since..... One solution, REVOLUTION!
Chavez has not publicly announced that "he is a communist." And I hate to break it to you but if your standard is "better even than Cuba" you're not asking for much. Castro's a petit-bourgeois dictator with the habit of accusing everyone who doesn't agree with him of being in the pay of the CIA. Proof is not needed. It's never made public, at least. And Venezuela is very far from being socialist. Only about 10% of industry is under worker control.
Yea they should just go and kill off 100k people of the Inteligent community... (those that wear glasses) Apparently they weren't to smart.. Hey miguel those rebels are coming take off your glasses or they'll shoot you!!
i think chavez perhaps plays it too safe. he has publibcly announced that he is communist, yet his reigeim doesnt entirely reflect that and perhaps that should be his next step. The peple love him and i think that his popularity would mean that if he did it right, he could fairly smoothly make the change and therefore give him more power to change the country. perhaps this would show those people who shun communism that it could work exelently, hopefully even better than in cuba.
Mike lectures me for first year Spanish history/literature at Glasgow University. Never realised how prolific he was until recently, highly intelligent and charismatic guy!

You people are a bunch of idiots! Ask your family how nice it is to go to the store and the shelves be empty! Ask how the food lines are! Wake the hell up! Socialism will fail just as it has everywhere it has been tried! That is the facts!
What worries me about Venezuala is the degree to which the regime shies away from the neccesity of destroying the ruling class, by destroying the legal basis of their ownership. They respect 'Private Property' and thus can only strike a number of non-fatal blows to them.

garryandfran,
Revolution is right! I am so proud of the Venezuelan people and Chavez. America needs to take its resources away from elites also.
