Mandapul is now the word used in eastern Arnhem Land for didgeridoo following the recent passing of a senior Manggalili man whose name bore a resemblance to the old word for didgeridoo.

Here, Rrimitja demonstrates mandapul and also gives an introduction to himself and some biographical notes in Yolngu Matha.

  • @blumem rrimitja tells about his background, his name, his father, mother, his paternal grandfather, where he comes from, how he learnt mandapul and at what age he started etc. etc. no it is not slang; any further questions pls post in iDIDJ Forum or alternatively support iDIDJ Philanthropy and we'll support you back with questions you have

  • @Cre8iveSignWorks questions like this need to go on the iDIDJ Forum, there's not enough space to write full answers here, but short answers are no, yes and no.

  • @ididjaustralia

yes i realise this and i did read the description...

but are words like yidaki and mago still going to be used

or in conjunction with the new word?

  • @ididjaustralia (not sure if I'm sending this twice, comp acting a bit funny) but basically I'd just like to know what he's saying in his intro/bio and whether mandapul is slang or not.

  • @blumem what do u want to know?

  • @ididjaustralia not in the description of this vid, I'd also like to know. Also, subtitles? Or are there and it's something wrong at my end? I'd like to know more about this cat :) Liking the look of this vid by the way. The coppery feel. It's good.

  • So Guan are you going to change all the tags and titles to your videos because of this?

  • @Cre8iveSignWorks most of ur questions can b answered in the descriptions to the videos

  • so what is this new word mandapul?

whats wrong with yidaki or mago?

it it aboriginal slang or does it just mean didgeridoo (all kinds) or what ?

    cheers
