i am a police sharpshooter and shoot a 700 in .223. i have never had any trouble, take care of your guns and you will not have trouble.

Having had a pre 83 700 go off in my hands by only touching the bolt or safety many times, with an clean, properly maintained, and unaltered trigger system, I call this total propaganda.
-
Adding this, CNBC has been accused of being a bit on the pro gun control side.

You can fill novels with half truths and mis information. Good to see truth prevail, or at least in this case. Sad thing though, the mis information gets more publicity.

I own a few Remington 700s and like them, and agree about the rules of gun safety, but if there's any way for Remington to make the rifle more safe (even if badly maintained or adjusted), I'd like to think they'd choose to do so. I don't really care about liability for past accidents; I just want to be able to buy the best rifle possible.
That said, any deviation from the Mauser 98 action is a mistake...

Remember. If you ever accidentally shoot somebody, it's not your own fault. It's the gunmaker's fault.

Picked up my first Remington 700 from wal-mart this past fall. I intend on using it for foul weather hunting. I can guarantee that the only way the thing will fir on its own is if it turns into a transformer. With that being said even "IF" the damn thing ever fired accidentally, at most i would put a round into the dirt. NEVER point a weapon, loaded or not at anything you aren't willing to destroy.

The internet has already made the big news corporations obsolete. What we've got here is a desperate struggle to remain interesting.
CNBC trying to stir up trouble, and ratings...

I think the video which shows "law enforcement officers" with the gun that fires by touching the bolt is a little fishey. Anyone with the know how can disassemble a firearm alter it reassemble it correct or not. I believe it was purposely altered to misfire. They are trolling for a publicity stunt.
