Hawaiian music legend Israel "Bruddah IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole (May 20, 1959 -- June 26, 1997) and American Idol finalist Jason Castro in a mashup duet performance of "(Somewhere) Over The Rainbow."

When I originally produced the video in 2008 it featured the medley "Over The Rainbow / What A Wonderful World" by Bruddah IZ. Unfortunately, use of "What A Wonderful World" was considered a copyright infringement by Warner Music Group and the video was taken down after getting more than a million hits. I've since edited out that particular portion, enabling me to re-post it here.

Grateful acknowledgment to Universal Music Group, The Mountain Apple Company, Honolulu, Hawaii and to Bruddah IZ's producer and longtime friend Jon de Mello, who more than anyone else has helped preserve the memory and legacy of our beloved Bruddah IZ.

  • Man! So happy to see this is up again. We are long time Jason Castro fans since the first time we saw him on the stage on AI. Come visit us at The Dreadheads. Winnie put the video up that's why we're here. Huge thank you!

  • @Flying4JC Huge you're welcome... Mahalo!

  • Happy Birthday Bruddah IZ!

  • Thank you for bringing this video back. Bruddah is brilliant and Jason Castro gave him the recognition he deserves for this version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Please don't ever bring it down again because this classic will always be remembered and enjoyed no matter how many times we watch it.

  • @winnpoober Wow Winnie! You really are a Jason Castro fan... I saw the pic of you and him on your Myspace. I'm not sure if Jason's ever seen my video. But if you're ever in touch with him, please let him know about it. I just hope he reacts more favorably than Warner Music Group did haha. Hopefully, WMG won't object to my re-edited version. After all, it's a tribute and memorial to Bruddah IZ.

  • Thanks for bringing this back... love, love, love it

  • @Beckyvee You're welcome... Please share the link so we can make it go viral again ^_^

  • @VidBrats Oh, believe me, it's on my facebook profile and I tweeted it. I was the one who sent it to Winnie... :D and I sent @jasoncastro a tweet with the link too, just like I see Winnie did... :) We got ya covered...

  • I tweeted it to Jason. You should tweet it to him at @jasoncastro. Hopefully he might see it. And If I remember, when I see him on the 30th I will mention it to him if I get a chance to talk to him. He needs to see it.
