The one crime committed using a registered machine gun was a cop who used a machine pistol to murder an informant. Everything else has been as simple as a paperwork mishap.
Assault rifles are not as common as you think in the US. If you had watched the video that this debate is taking place on, you'd have realized that for a long time the machine gun registry has been closed to new registrations, barring the creation of dealer samples which are heavily controlled. Anyone who owns a machine gun registered prior to the 1986 closure had to pay a $200 tax, as well as a large background check. THESE GUNS ARE ALL ACCOUNTED FOR.
Everytime a machine gun is transfered from one person to another, it has a $200 tax on it, paid once by the buyer. The person buying it has to have approval from the chief law enforcement officer (ex. police chief) where they live and from the ATF. Machine guns made after May, 1986 can only be owned by dealers and law enforcement, which requires a destructive device license. Costs $3000/year. This info was told to me by an ATF agent.
Part of the second admendment to the U.S. constituion says "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed". It doesn't say excluding certain guns or excluding for certain reasons. SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED MEANS SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED! There is no if, ands, or buts about it. Any government doesn't suddenly take away freedoms. They do it slowly. Using lies, like saying it is for the good of the people. Hitler and Stalin both did this.
Tyranny means abuse of power. By your statement taxation without representation isn't abuse of power and neither is police brutality. It's not an "angle." Your government has plenty of laws regarding Tyranny - "cruelty and injustice in the exercise of power or authority over others." US citizens know what real tyranny is. That's why we protect ourselves. That's why the Bill of Rights was enacted.
