P.S. I run a 2001 225Q TT with the P-flo/GIAC X/42dd 3'' DP and hi-flo cat/forge 007. Sounds great under load! In my last comment I meant the open element air filter doesn't really impede the swoosh sound, so you really don't even lose that when keeping the DV the car was designed for. I also believe that all cars today run DV's, since there are some environmental concerns/restrictions about venting boost to atmosphere, since it may contain combustion by-products/oil from the PCV system.
The air is metered by the MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor). What a BOV does is take air that the engine already accounted for in its calculation of how much fuel to spray and dumps it to atmosphere. This causes the vehicle to have more fuel per air molecule than previously accounted for, causing the car to run rich between shifts, when the DV/BOV is doing its job. Rich isn't really all that bad for a vehicle, but it will cause CEL's, check engine light. an open element like the p-flo sounds 90% of BOV.
I just installed this same setup on my 225 with the APR reflash. I had no idea it would make such a big difference. You're definitely right about the sound under load... idle doesn't sound much different but once you get going...damn does it sound nasty! Much more responsive too!
So I wanna get the neuspeed pflo intake for my 225 Audi tt but not sure it with fit is yours a 225 or 180hp? Also does everything I need come with the intake?
Both do the same job: release boost pressure. The blow off valve vents the boost from the turbo to the atmosphere, while the DV take it back to the airbox, creating a kind of closed loop system. Some like the "woosh" of the blow off valve, but german cars are design to work with a DV.
well i think its safer to have DV, but its just hard to explain..

@454sskilla If you run a bov, your car will start running rich. With the added air that gets recirculated from the dv, you don't get that.

because diverter valve is safer... :)
