High Sign Nugget is a Canadian bred & owned, 1988 ApHC registered, few spot Appaloosa stallion, and Canada's top producing sire of Appaloosa cutting, reining and cow horses.
I shot this video in 2001 at the Calgary Stampede, during the Working Cow Horse events. Nugge is shown here ridden by his owner Jim Dobler.
I have always been impressed with this horse's agility, athleticism, and his willing intelligent approach to what is asked of him. He does the most amazing sliding stops, and is just a wonderful balanced horse.
The Working Cow Horse class consists of two parts: the "Dry" work - which is a series of reining patterns which include loping in big & small circles, flying lead changes, sliding stops, spins and backing, etc. The "Wet" work which consists of cow work with a single calf. The horse must demonstrate his "cow savvy" by containing the cow (in cowboy parlance called "boxing") at one end of the arena, then running the cow down the fence, turning him, running him in the opposite direction, turning him again, then "circle the cow" by taking him to the middle of the ring and running in a circle.
It's a fascinating sport to watch, and my favorite rodeo event!

"Spot," a true Appaloosa performance horse who can hold his own in the open competition and has proven himself as a sire of the same! I dream of meeting him someday and am proud to own one of his sons, Smart Little Sign.

Nice to see "Spot" doing what he loved to do! An exceptional cow horse with 5 ApHC World Championships to his name, he is certainly one of my favorite horses....I currently own 5 of his offspring!
