This responds to the growing demand from recovery experts, U.S. court rulings, problem drinkers and drug addicts for a global resource directory of alternative treatments. You can find a multitude of different self-help groups, a variety of alternatives to help with your alcohol or drug use, such as hypnosis or acupuncture, what works and what doesn't, how to choose a treatment program and a comprehensive directory of licensed professionals all over the U.S., and treatment facilities both within the U.S. and abroad. While everyone has heard of Alcoholics Anonymous and other twelve-step programs that suport millions of people each year with addiction, they are not the only effective programs available.
Melanie Solomon's book compares and contrasts many different self-help programs so the client can better choose which one best suits his or her needs, as well as contact information for licensed professionals and treatment facilities throughout the U.S. and abroad. "This book is ideal for any addiction professional's waiting room, treatment process, or as an integral part of the client's continuing care plan." (NAADAC-The Association for Addiction Professionals).
"AA-Not the Only Way fills an important niche in the recovery literature. It offers a compact but wide-ranging guide to addiction support and treatment options. The author's recovery story will also be an inspiration to those who find themselves battling a one-size-fits-all system that is supposed to be helping them." (Dr. Tom Horvath, President of SMART Recovery).
John McCready (M-RAS, NCAC), states it best when he writes, "...Overall, this is a book whose existence needs to be shouted from the rooftop, evangelized on street corners, and should be REQUIRED READING in EVERY Alcohol and Drug Counselor certification program in the United States! A copy should be sent to every drug and alcohol treatment center in the U.S., and most importantly, this book should be ON THE DESK OF EVERY "coercing authority" that has the power to "force" people with addictive disorders, into treatment facilities...If you are in recovery, or know someone who is, or wants to be, this book is a MUST READ! Don't start or continue a recovery path without it!"
@somethingdiffereable Exactly, Charlie is a little nuts, but his method works great unlike the AA cult.

@gina2190 Agreed. AA is nothing but a loose cult full of losers.

@dogcat126 You had the complete opposite experience of me. AA was the worst thing I ever tried in my life. If AA were the only way, I'd rather still be drinking.

@linkdude64 I didn't fail AA. AA is the failure. Tried Charlie's method and wow... It really works. Hate to say it since he's a nut, but he was right.

AA not the only way? No one in AA claims that, that for sure. It's a way that worked for a couple of guys and it rarely fails for people who thoroughly follow their suggestions.

The problem is that when it comes to treatment, people do not understand the science behind what are standards for treatment. I suggest you read about the characterisitics of pseudoscience and then look at the 12Step program.I also suggest you read an article in the web"Why Bogus Therapies Often Seem to Work"Most clinical practitians do not test their hypothesis and in the case of the 12Step is a clasic case. Neither BoborBill where behavioral scientist.12 Step programs basically faith healing.

i am 63 and did drugs and alcohol(the worst drug around) for many many years. i finally did go to AA& NA. i whole heartedly disagree that these programs do not work!!! it takes a lot of work on your part to stay clean. let's face it, we addicts do not like to work. i relasped so many times and was always accepted back- never ever judged! people got frustrated with me but never made me feel unwanted-quite the opposite! i have cancer and other health problems now and i still use what AA taught me!

@MsAddictionHelp Charley Sheen may be batshit crazy but he's right about one thing. AA is a nasty little deceptive cult. They've manipulated the government, healthcare system and even the criminal justice system into their web of deception. AA is one big fraud. They say one thing and mean another. They are found on the principals of the religious temperance movement of the 1920s. The war on drugs is a fraud too. It is sponsored by the tobacco, liquor and phamacuetic inds, prisons, legalsystem etc
