Krista comes with me wherever I go. That's why I have taught her to enjoy stand up paddle boarding with me. The training is very simple and similar to kayaking with her. I use targeting and positive reinforcement to get her acclimated. She is an avid swimmer but always wears a lifejacket so that she can be seen in the water and in case she is exhausted. It is also an easy way to get a hold of her if necessary.

  • Never tie your dog to the board or a kayak. I always bring a leash if I need to go to land to let her go to the bathroom. We make certain this is far from the water. It is the law in most places to have your dog on leash and keeps them from interfering with wildlife. And it helps create good relations with people who are not into dogs or afraid of them.
