@athruster Unfortunately I had it checked out by a sunroof specialist and he tells me that the design is such that one of the cables that is fused to the actual sunroof panel has broken free - and there is no way to fix or re-attach it. The only option is to replace the entire sunroof with a 2nd hand sunroof.
Subaru gave me a ballpark figure of $2000 to repair.
