India's population now stands at 1.21 billion

India's population has touched a whopping 1.21 billion people. This is an increase of 181 million people since the last census in 2001. Of the total population, 623.7 million are men and 586.5 million are women.

@MsElizabethFernandez The overpopulation in India is caused by a mania to have sons, because of the Hindu religion. A son is believed to be necessary to enter the afterlife, to light the funeral fires, and the are a source of wealth because of Hinduism's dowry system, whereby the parents of a girl must pay a substantial dowry to a man when they get married. There is a lot of female infanticide, which is why there are so many more women in India than men.

The message needs to be specially given to the north + North east states. It is estimated Bihar,Orrissa, UP, MP and Rajasthan will be responsible for 55% of population growth rate from 1996-2016(from the planning commision report). Message needs to be going out faster. I fear for India as a lot of citizens are apathetic or simply don't care enough about our society.
