Joe followed Natalie's dad into the living room. Her dad sat in his big chair and Joe was just hoping he didn't say something stupid.
Dad: you can take a seat son. I'm not gonna kill you. I still have to hear what you have to say.
Joe: uh. Thanks [took a seat nervously]
Dad: so you and my daughter are an item.
Joe: uh. Y-yes sir.
Dad: how long have you two known each other?
Joe: well I first met her at one of my shows.
Dad: your shows?
Joe: yeah. Well you see, I'm in a band with my brothers.
Dad: and what kind of band is this?
Joe: um a rock band.
Natalie was eavesdropping and smacked her head when Joe said a rock band. Now her dad is gonna think he's some druggie rocker dude.
Dad: a rock band?
Joe: y-yes sir.
Dad: and how long have you been in this band?
Joe: about 4 years.
Dad: and I'm assuming you are still playing out of garages.
Joe: um. No. we are actually playing arenas.
Dad: do I look like a fool to you? [leans into Joe]
Joe: n-no sir! [nervously] not at all. I promise it's the truth. I'm in the band with my brothers. We are called the Jonas brothers.
Dad: of course you are. And what's with the tight pants son? Can you even breathe?
Joe: [nervously laughs] um. I guess its just my look.
Dad: oh so you have a look. [Joe nodded his head] ok well lets get back to the first question. Where did you meet my daughter?
Joe: at the arena where she works. She was helping us out and yeah. She's a great girl. Beautiful, smart and has a great head on her shoulders.
Dad: yes she does. And she is leaving for college in a month. And the last thing I want is for her to get distracted.
Joe: not at all sir. I want her to live out her dream as much as you do. I would never get in the way of that.
Dad: you seem like a good kid. My nephew Alex told me you were a nice guy. I'm starting to warm up to you. [Joe let out a sigh of relief] but that doesn't mean your off the hook! But I'll give you a chance.
Joe: [got up and shook his hand] thank you sir.
Dad: [pulled Joe in a little] but if you break her heart I'll break your face. [smiled]
Joe: [gulped] understood.
Dad: ok you two have fun. Shorty you can come out from behind the wall now.
Natalie: bye daddy I love you!
Natalie quickly grabbed Joe and pulled him out of the house. They ran to her car and when they both got in she couldn't help but laugh hysterically.
Joe: may I ask what you find so funny?
Natalie: oh man you should have seen your face the whole time my dad was talking to you.
Joe: well. Have you taken a good look at your dad. He is a very scary man.
Natalie: no he's not! He's a big teddy bear!
Joe: that's what you said about your brother but sorry I just don't see it.
Natalie: aww. Its ok. He liked you I could tell. I don't know about the green sunglasses and tight pants though. He just needs to get used to it.
Joe: I just hope he doesn't think I'm going to stop you from doing what you love. I do support your decision on going to school and following your dream ya know.
Natalie: did you mean everything you said back there?
Joe: I wouldn't lie to your dad.
Natalie: that was sweet Joe [smiled at him]
Joe: how about we go eat to calm my nerves. I was about to pee my pants.
Natalie: [laughing] Lets go feed you.
As they drove off to go eat breakfast Natalie sat looking out the window thinking. Never in a million years would she have thought her boyfriend would be an international pop star. But it didn't feel that way. He was a genuine good person. Even thought she teased him about it he never had a rock star attitude. She felt his hand creep into hers. She looked down at their intertwined fingers and then looked up at him. He flashed her a warm smile and she smiled back. Everything was perfect.
