Bernard Whitman, democratic strategist and pollster, argues that Obama is striking a masterful tone because his is speaking about the economy in value based terms. These terms appeal to both the left and the right in terms of hard work and responsibility in an optimistic and forward looking way. While Romney once again is showing himself to be the Jimmy Carter of this cycle. He loves nothing more than to talk down to people and has a very negative tone. Gingrich clearly lost last night's debate to Romney, but his quote here is much better. Everyone loves what comes out of Newt's mouth, but the problem is that when you test those policies they fall short. This is why Clinton was reelected and why Newt is so volatile.

The Occupy Wall Street movement allowed the democratic party to embrace the notion that income inequality is a real problem. On a fairness vs. freedom scale fairness is going to win because the middle class can't get ahead and the system is rigged for Mitt Romney and the one percent.
