Oracle's monstrous trimaran is the first trimaran in AC histrory that raced for, and won, the America's Cup. Oracle's 100-foot trimaran raced Alinghy's (former holder of the Cup) giant catamaran in a one-on-one best of three series February 2010 in the ocean off Valencia, Spain. It is the fastest yacht ever, to race and win the America's Cup. Representing the USA and GGYC of San Francisco, Oracle's team spent over a year in San Diego, CA practicing, modifying, and fine-tuning their boat. Oracle's trimaran was sailed under two different configurations shown in this vid: a soft-sail rig and a hard wing-sail configurations. Most impressive on the huge trimaran is it's 195-foot wing which compares to the wing of an Airbus 380 wing. Oracle's crew prefers the wing-sail due to it's simplicity and efficiency in maneuvering on the water. Surface area of the wing-sail is 6,725 square feet and it's weight is approximately 7,700 pounds.
