This lecture was given in 2005. He quickly mentions about a 'socio-economic collapse that might occur in 2008.' Does anyone know how he came to this calculation/ thought/ prediction? Fascinating since 3 years later, an economic collapse did occur.

He said that the Mayan sources informed some of the scholars, Calleman is one, that 2007 was likely the beginning, and you could count from there until the end, 2012, the emergence of the new and the destruction of the old.

Looks like this is certainly happening now.
