Unscripted: Terry Fator

His act is one of the hottest tickets in Las Vegas, and he has guested on both the David Letterman and Oprah Winfrey shows. The notoriously hard-to-please Simon Cowell called him "one of the best entertainers in the world." Not bad for a guy who was a virtual unknown just two years ago.

It took Terry Fator more than 30 years to become an overnight sensation. An unlikely combination of ventriloquist, singer, comedian and celebrity impressionist, the affable Texan -- who started mimicking Bill Cosby records at the age of six -- toiled in showbiz obscurity until 2007, when the NBC-TV series America's Got Talent catapulted him unexpectedly into the spotlight.

Fator works with an ever-growing cast of puppet characters, performing uncanny vocal impersonations of musical acts like Justin Timberlake, Garth Brooks, Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Roy Orbison, Louis Armstrong and Cher. Despite his prodigious gifts, he had all but given up any hope of success when he landed on America's Got Talent.

To his surprise, he won top spot, and soon found himself in constant demand. Earlier this year, he signed a $100-million deal that will see him headline at the Mirage in Las Vegas for the next 10 years. 2009 has also seen an autobiography and a live DVD hit the stores -- and this month he will release the holiday single "Christmas in Las Vegas."
