Railfanning Bayview Junction With (CNSF) Ex BNSF Unit

On Saturday, me, StCatharinesRailfan8, and OntarioRails1 would head over to Jordan in Lincoln on the CN Grimsby Sub to do some railfanning. Although, we'd soon hear from admydragon and BramptonRailfan (thanks for the heads up guys) that CN 148 had passed milepost 68 on the CN Dundas Sub with CN 2407 and CN (Ex BNSF) C40-8W 2159 and still in BNSF paint. Which would make a rare catch if we saw it. We'd head for Bayview Junction in Burlington. When we got there CN 421 was stopped due to an air brake hose seperation, causing it to go into emergency. The conductor soon would come along and find the two cars with the air brake hoses seperated. Within minutes he'd fix the problem. LocalRailfan then joined us making a 4 railfan group. The snow temporarily became intense and we headed under the Plains Rd bridge to film 421 getting under way. We then found out that CN 567 had left Aldershot with lone CN 8892 to wye at Hamilton Junction on the Dundas Sub to prepare for it's trip back to Port Robinson from Aldershot. We'd rush onto the Plains Rd bridge to film it. We then found out that CN 148 was getting awfully close to Bayview. Once 567 was gone, we'd charge back over to the Bayview pedestrian bridge to film 148. Within minutes it would round the bend off the Dundas Sub and onto the Oakville Sub with it's expected power. It was a great moment for all of us. Its the closest i've come to seeing a BNSF in over two years. Well actually the second ex BNSF in just less than a week. I saw an ex BNSF SD40-2 on a CP freight on the CP North Toronto Sub as an HLCX leasing unit around 6 days previously. It was great to relive a moment like that, and be able to film it. After 148 had passed with it's ex BNSF, StCatharinesRailfan8, OntarioRails1 and me would head for Aldershot for a bit before heading home.

We railfans would quickly nickname this Ex BNSF patched CN as a CNSF locomotive.

Greatcatches. Did you no by the CN cowpath they are adding a 3rd track from Mile 0.0 of the CN Dundas Sub. that connects only to the CN Cowpath. There willbe a small wye (visible from where you filmed from the bridge) to connect to Hamilton or to Burlington. You cannot access the CN Dundas Sub. from this track. If you need the CN Dundas Sub. trains will have to use the cowpath only. Mainly this 3rd track is for the VIA's that wye here so they don't tie up the main on the CN Dundas Sub.

@RailfanWaterloo Really? I didn't know. It almost sounds confusing but i get it. That's really cool to hear. Although, i still don't see how that makes sense. There are many spots along the CN Oakville Sub where a wye can be built. Long Branch is a great spot. Not only is it possible to build one there for Via but it's close to TMC (Mimico Yard). The wye they have at TMC can also be torn up and replaced with a wye slightly to the west that can hold a 20 car GO train. Still, thanks for the info.

In a sense, BNSF is a GEVO dominated railroad, it's all you see expecially on the transcon anymore... so yeah. It added much needed variety... but oh well.
