Doesn't really matter if you tune the G down to D does it? Your not really using the middle strings.

Do you run a different set of strings to use the DADDAD tuning system? When I loosen my strings down to the alt tuning, they sound terrible.

I'm almost unable to do a well sounding tapping sound, even on open chords :-)
Most difficult, to me, is to make sound the Base lines. It's always "thuck!" or alike...
tuning: I guess it's DADF#AD, but Billy's tunings are often not easy...
