I understand your frustration. I am that drum major that marched on the field. I wasn't confident in our ratings that season either. But it is what it is and considering that I probably was the only musician in the entire band that ever memorized all the music for each instrument and myself. the band as whole did pretty good, also in account most of those band members have no aspiration in music.
oh and my instrument was Trombone not Trumpet, it is hard to tell in this video.
196 participants, wow! I didn't think that number would ever be below 200. I guess interest has waned somewhat.. my graduation year we had 247, back in 2005. What happened in 05-06 and 06-07. It was apparently canceled in 05 and no Kiltie results in 2006.
I was drum major in '98 and I agree with the idea of tradition and the highland dancers - it would be different if the uniform was not so traditional and specific for its niche... Sarasota was founded by the Scotts and if you're going to wear a kilt, dance to a few highland traditional songs. ;)
Well, I was at the school "back in the day" with a different director and I think some people need to advance to the present. Change is a good thing, after all!!
The Kilties are now a embarrasment to all us Alumni who knew the real tradition behind each performace. What happened to that tradition???? The Highland Dancers look ridiculous dancing to anything other then what they are suppose to. And Since when does a Drum Major march with the rest of the band during a field performace playing a trumpet.....I mean really now!!!!!
@wrale577
god i know we had over 300 marching in 90 PLUS auxillary-so sad to see the powerhouse of naumann.ohara dwindle
