oh, I loved this version of the final re-capitulation. It was inventive, virtuosic, and galvanizing. It makes the standard version seem plain. It's great.

Nothing is missing. It takes great skill to play this composition and make it seem "easy". I don't know if I agree with the improvisations, but if I were a betting man, which I am not, I would bet my money that Liszt improvised at every performance of his works. With Liszt it's ok, it's almost as if he wants us to. Look at the rhapsodie#2 - he actually notes that we improvise a cadenza right?
I don't think Liszt would mind! He'd like it. Beethoven would probably kill you if you changed his work.
