  • Nice plane shots. I actually saw that B52 land at Chanute in 73 or it might have been 74 when i was there TDY. I later went on to be a pilot and actually flew the AT6 but I was born too late. My real love would have been to fly the F104 Widowmaker. Just ended my career as a B777 Captain. I still miss Chanute. My father was even there in the 40's...Thanx Again

  • My mom's mom was in the Air Force (he served in WWII and the Korean War) and she was born on the base.

I'm glad my old home videos brought back nostalgia for you!

  • Was an air force brat 69-81 graduated rths, thanks for the pics of the planes!

  • My mom graduated from RTHS during that time period!

  • Nice video. I didnt think that they still had aircraft for the museum at chanute. A lot of money invested for new chow hall fac. just before they closed down the base.

  • @LisaSalemie Please come back and look around. Base housing was not torn down. It has been sold in various ways, one unit at a time, all of Cantonement, half a duplex, etc. Chapman Courts, next to the IGA, where my wife's family lived, has been torn down, but housing on the base is alive and beautiful. You should see how some people have renovated those houses into $100K homes. It's the base buildings themselves that are being torn down...People Center, Civil Engineering.

  • @osgood54 Some went to Wright-Patterson in Dayton, some went to the Smithsonian, a few stayed here. The B-52's were dismantled during the Reagan years.

  • @LisaSalemie The base housing has not been torn down.

  • Lived there from 87-89 and this is exactly how i remember it.

  • I was also stationed at Chanute AFB at the end of October 66 and 1967 in which I got discharged. I worked in food service delivering food to the five dinning halls and also the bakery. I was from the Supply field and working in food service was different. I sure did gain weight. I feel teary eyed when I see the base now and thinking back the way it use to be.

  • was there in 88/89 in speical purpose vehicle mech.had lot of fun met a lot of good people.marty olson from NY where are you.

  • I was at Chanute in May of 88. This brings back a lot of memories. Thanks
