Well if you remember, the Vajra really didnt have a bad purpose.
They just wanted to get Ranka away from the rest of the people in the Fleet since she was so similar to them (The Vajra) and so different then the other people she was around.
They felt as though they were doing a GOOD thing by trying to get and take Ranka away.
