Close Encounters of the Third Kind, is a 1977 American science fiction film written and directed by Steven Spielberg. The film stars Richard Dreyfuss, François Truffaut, Melinda Dillon, Teri Garr, Bob Balaban, and Cary Guffey.

Principal photography began on May 16, 1976. Spielberg did not want to do any location shooting because of his negative experience on Jaws and wanted to shoot Close Encounters entirely on sound stages, but eventually dropped the idea. Filming took place in Burbank, California, Devils Tower National Monument in Wyoming, two abandoned World War II airship hangars in Mobile, Alabama and the railroad depot in Bay Minette. The home where Barry was abducted is located outside the town of Fairhope, Alabama. Roy Neary's home is at Carlisle Drive East, Mobile, Alabama 1977

Well put together and thanks for sharing this just would like to know how did you get into the houses don't the residents get angry as it was the film location and houses they used ! I do know that the houses use for the goonies the residents don't like people even taking pictures little lone going into there houses ! Your very privileged

@mosthaunteddorset Well, I contacted the owners long time in advance and explained the project. Concerning the Goonies, I went their last week and visited the Goonies house interiors (video to be released Jan 2012). The owners were very kind and friendly. Again, I contacted them 2 months before. But there is no such thing the Goonies owners don't want other people taking pictures. There is a big sign at their gate stating Goonie fans are welcome.

Jillian's house is on the east side of Highway 181, northeast of Fairhope, AL, just north (two properties) of where 104 crosses it. The railroad crossing where Roy has his first "encounter" is at the intersection of Spanish Trail (highway 90) and Padget Switch Road south of Mobile.
