If there was anything "filthy" about the R.E.F. in S. Africa, it was the boar it engaged. No standing army had really fought against a disorganized, pointless resistance before. The song, by the way, is not boar, but was popular all over the world at the time. As to the RM, I served with them (attached USMC/USN) in former Yugoslavia. Even the US Marines respected them, and I found them to a man damned professional and _caring_ under very hard circumstances. God save the Bootnecks! -traumadoc

As a South African, i also feel that it is a fitting tribute their stout adversaries, the Boer Kommandos, and feel proud that that England's finest have adopted it. Besides, there are many RM's who are South African - just look at 45 commando, their numbers almost rival the Scotts.
