I began taming Truman my Cape Parrot to lay on his back in my hand and to let me open his wings. These are both necessary taming requisites for future tricks I want to teach like wings, play dead, and wearing the harness.

Please read the full article on the training blog to learn more about how to tame a parrot to lay on its back and to let you open its wings.

  • @kiliparrot What treat are you using?

  • @sahzmb Whatever he likes. I use a combination of nuts, seeds, and fruits. By changing it up I can maintain motivation.

  • What is your strategy for disciplining for biting?

  • @illigersinSpokane Do nothing.

  • Are there any other taming exercises? I have a macaw that is a rescued bird, great bird but won't let me touch him at all......any advice?

  • @illigersinSpokane Well use a similar technique but start further out. Find how close you can get to the parrot without it biting or freaking out. Feed some treats, put your hand closer. Take a look at my taming one person parrot video. That is the technique you are looking for to get within grabbing distance. Then continue with what you see here.

  • Can I give you a reward for being calm when you're on your back? :D
