The problem is, as Paul Foot alluded to, there's so much sectarianism on the Left.

If you want a left-wing US party (leaving aside revolutionary vs. gradualism), you have your pick of the Socialist Workers Party, Socialist Labor Party, Communist Party, Freedom Road Socialist Party, Liberty Union Party, Socialist Party USA, Peace and Freedom Party, Workers World Party, Party for Socialism and Liberation, Socialist Equality Party, and World Socialist Party of the United States.

I thought that the SW active in the US was a different organization from the UK's SWP.

I agree that the US people are living in a media environment of government misinformation, media distortions and incessant and patronizing advertising.

I'm a bit optimistic though, because despite the philistine and reactionary media, most Americans poll far to the left of "their representatives" in the American govt.

It does, but the Reaganite propaganda has turned most Americans off to the idea, because of course, they have this false conception of buying happiness rambling inside their head, it's called the American Dream, and if they'd wake up, maybe the SWP (US) would become more prevalent.
