By Special Request, Columbia (SS) A6071 (49458) "Loch Lomond (By Yon Bonnie Banks)" (Old Scottish Melody) Baritone Solo Sung by Oscar Seagle With Orchestra Accompaniment. Issued circa late 1918. Played on my VV-VIa.

Lyrics:

By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes,
Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomon.
where me and my true love were ever wont to gae
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o Loch Lomon.

O ye'll tak the high road and I'll tak the low road,
An' I'll be in Scotland afore ye;
But me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o Loch Lomon.

Twas there that we parted in yon shady glen,
On the steep, steep side o Ben Lomon,
Where in purple hue the Hieland hills we view,
An' the moon comin' out in the gloamin.

O yell tak the high road and I'll tak the low road,
An' I'll be in Scotland afore ye;
But me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o Loch Lomon.

The wee birdies sing and the wild flowrs spring,
And in sunshine the waters are sleepin;
But the broken heart it kens nae second spring again,
Tho the waefu may cease frae their greetin

O yell tak the high road and I'll tak the low road,
An' I'll be in Scotland afore ye;
But me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o Loch Lomon.

  • Hi,

    I'm in Phi Mu Alpha, the national music fraternity, at the University of Missouri. Mr. Seagle was an honorary member, initiated in our chapter in 1925. Would it be possible to obtain a copy of it in any manner?

    Thanks!

    -Ryan

  • That's awesome I'm from MO state. Had no idea that Oscar Seagle was from here.

  • Thank you! I really appreciate it!

  • I would say Go Maple Leafs! But being from Boston-It's Go Bruins! ;-) J.

  • Toronto..., There is negligible wear when using a new needle for every record. At some point i will get some sort of digital recorder so I can make CDs for friends. I'll always prefer my Talking Machines over any digital playback. These clips are but a pale refection of the live acoustic sound of even a machine as humble as this little VV-VI. I am very glad you enjoyed the clip. Thank you! Regards, J.

  • You should take this and get your hands on one of those record recorders that record your record and then saves them to your computer as an mp3 just to save this, cause sadly this will become less and less playable eachtime you play it, which is sad as this is like the best song ever!!!

  • Merc.., He will be in my prayers tonight. Regards, J.
