In this free knitting tutorial you'll learn how to create the herringbone stitch. Herringbone stitch is great for all types of knitted projects, as it creates an interesting texture that looks as if the stitches are slanted and woven together - similar to the bones of a Herring!

Cast On: Multiples of 2

Pattern:
Row 1: *Knit 2 stitches through the back loop (tbl) dropping only the first stitch off your needle,* rep from * to last st, k last stitch.
Row 2: *P2tog, dropping only the first stitch off your needle,* rep from * to last st, p last stitch.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you have reached your desired width.

This stitch requires a very loose cast on, so make sure your tension isn't too tight. Once you've got the hang of this stitch, try making this beautiful cowl from AllFreeKnitting.com: http://www.allfreeknitting.com/Cowls/big-herringbone-cowl
