  • Poor old thing, so what was it in the end? Is she fixed?

  • Yes back within a few days.

  • Classic sound of a partial engine seizure resulting in a pulled cylinder liner.WMPTE ran many a Fleetline with a similar alarming knock for months tho hot weather usually finished them off.Cooling system fault?

  • Ah Fleetline, yes I have a video of XBU17S a Fleetline doing similar.

  • Typical bus driver, Knocking like that you should pull over and call the garage, for advise atleast!!

  • He did phone the depot, he was an experienced driver, and the depot told him to bring it out out of service, I know the driver well and I stayed on it with him. It was only a small fault.

  • Perhaps a more refined timetable would put less pressure on drivers ; )

  • @1LORDROBBIE You're obviously an idiot where it comes to mechanical devices. "Crashing the gears" is bad for the power train, and Gardner engines where amongst the smoothest, most fuel efficient and reliable diesel engines ever made.

You may drive them, but you're certainly not the one fixing them

  • heard similar noises when one of our buses at work went 'bang' also made loud hissing noises similar to this

  • He is not changing the gears properly! What he should of done was whilest he was going out of gear was to count for 3 secs. then whilest go into gear count 3secs again. Thats how my dad drives them and it's a beautiful gear change.

  • what time does it go bang ?

  • @kitchy5191 more likely to be the mitre box on VR, particularly after gear changes like that, unfortunately this was the VR's achillies heel,,,,,,they don't take kindly to straight through changes.....also sounds much worse on the over run.....

  • Sounds like the compressor on its way out to me. Nothing too major.

  • Best way to get power out of a crappy Gardnered vehicle crash the gears through ! Top driver been driving buses 17 years myself and good to see somebody else making a bus dance !

  • i waited 8mins for a bang. there was no bang!!!!

  • i waited 8mins for a bang! there was no bang!
