Mike began trucking in September 1981 for Newlon's Transfer [1981-1995], and he's logged in many a mile criss-crossing America's highways and by-ways. Little did he know that trucking would also play a major role in expanding his growing country music career. Mostly traveling alone, he consumed a lot of music during those long hours in the saddle as seen on this 1997 clip of him rolling through Monroe, Louisiana [for Apple Transfer 1996-2002], singing a couple of his own songs; "Just A Nobody" and "Snakes Don't Sleep On A Hot Rock."
Johnson was inducted into America's Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame by the National Traditional Country Music Association on 1 September 20002.
National Traditional Country Music Association: http://www.orgsites.com/ia/oldtimemusic Trucking came to a screaching halt in September 2003 when three of his neck vertebrae collapsed on his spinal cord while on the job. Surgery in January 2004 and nearly two years of recovery and rehabilitation has allowed him to at least go back to his music, though in a diminished capacity.
On 26 April 2007, Mike Johnson achieved music immortality when his Yodel Song Archives containing 114 yodeling songs written & composed by him, and related material, was included in the Recorded Sound Reference Center's music archives at the Library of Congress.
Bart Plantenga, author of the 2004 best seller, "Yodel-Ay-Ee-ooo The Secret History of Yodeling Around the World" has done some substantial articles on Mike Johnson and included him in his audio projects. In 2006 the World Music Network in London, England released Bart's "Rough Guide to Yodel" compilation CD, featuring 18 world famous Yodelers. Mike Johnson is on track 14.
