Often mistaken as Gryzor, it's really Contra. Really great MSX-2 port, and pretty interesting.
The game contains 2 guns that aren't directly accessible in-game. See part 5.

  • Theres too much crap in between Red Falcon and the fortress, too much monotony and repetitiveness. Just a few levels would have been sufficient, looks like it gets boring after awhile.

  • This is consequent of the lack of scrolling. Personally, I really like this version.

  • Did anyone else notice that there's a HUGE lack of creativity in the additional levels? They're just caves and a pseudo 3D stage with no boss.

  • Most old fans noticed this already and it's mentioned in wikipedia and Contra HQ. Goes to show that Contra couldn't have had more back then.

    Still, this game is good.

  • this looks good but the NES better

  • this game is extremely longer than the NES version @_@

  • here is my spread gun! :D

  • @corlenbelspar0

Very recognisable. That's exactly what I do as well. Seems the only way to survive, else they just get you every time. :-)

  • imagine doing this game on the nes

  • I give the game 9/10!!! Not 10/10 because it seems just little repetitive in the later stages. Other than that, this is pure WIN!! ;-)

  • This version isn't that bad. I mean the way he walks is just too funny, I guess. :P

  • Actually, the one in Rebirth was their take on the original theme from the arcade game, if you've ever played it. Contra and Super Contra were both coin-op arcade games originally, and they decided to stick to the original theme for this MSX port (only sped up a little), while the NES/Famicom one was remixed a little bit (and also sped up a little). The waterfall theme for the MSX game is probably the best version I've ever heard, but the game itself is kinda lame compared to the other ports.

  • I thought the screen by screen scrolling was a refreshing change of pace for this kind of game but I also found felt like I was dying in the "how the hell was I supposed to know that would be there?" kind of way. So I ended up firing the rifle like crazy every time I got near the side of the screen.

  • LOL this version of the main theme is the version they used in Contra Rebirth. I thought maybe it was an original remix of the song made specifically for that game but obviously not.
