great discussion..i think this video was redirected only to those IP's who had intellectuals in front of their PC screens, thanks for the awesome memories
wow, this makes me really nostagic..i recall those BUSH gr8 catches contest..introduced on DD by Pataudi..and he's no more..my word, how time flies..I was in std-3..but exams in Nov, @amukher1..it was Diwali vacations when this match happened..which exams r u talkin about ?! i'm confused..:(
@amukher1 It was not the only heart break in that match. Srikkanth and Sidhu were going on very well when suddenly Srikkanth had a rush of blood and lost his stumps to Foster. Later Azhar and Kapil looked like they would seal the game when suddenly Kapil went for a slog and was caught in the boundary. Azhar and Shastri looked like they would steady things. Then Azhar's paddle sweep followed by a tail end collapse (they were decent batsmen-More, Prabhakar and Chetan Sharma) and finally Shastri
@anands72 We were a family of cricket fanatics. I was adding to my uncles' score diary that had scores of 79 and 83 World Cups and Test matches for 1976 (much before I was born). I remember my uncle slapping me because I had to study for exams and I sat morose after India lost to England in the semifinal. Shastri sweeping and the ball rising high, I think ultimately getting caught by the keeper (Downton).
@amukher1 You got excellent memory about something that took place in your second graed man... hats off ... Yes, India lost the previous match by a run. They snatched defeat from the jaws of victory (they needed 15 runs in 4 overs with 4 wickets in hand, something any minnow would have achieved and went on to lose by a run). This match where Azhar took the catch was the only match Aussies lost in the entier 87 world cup and was also the only match where they had to chase a target
@anands72 I was in 2nd standard :). But I still remember the match. India score 290 or so and comfortably beat the Aussies. The earlier match with Australia, India lost by 1 run - first match for India in the WC'87 and total heartbreak.
@MrDas2111: Coincidence man, I was in 9th class too. Infact this match was a crucial match for INdia to win to stay on top of the table in the group. The match took place on a Diwali day in New Delhi. Azhar also scored a 50 and got the MoM award. 4 Indian batsmen (Gavaskar, Vengsarkar, Sidhu and Azhar) scored 50s.. a very exciting match.... really feel nostalgic thinking about those days :-)
