McLaren has confirmed its plans to bring back the McLaren name to GT sports cars racing. From 2012, McLaren and CRS Racing will supply and support a limited number of GT3 racing cars based on the McLaren MP4-12C high-performance sports car for European-based privateers.

  • as much as i enjoy watching this, mclaren is crazy to compare these two cars, the f1 is arguably one of the most epic and timeless cars ever conceived, while the mp4 looks like kia's attempt to rival the f430. i like the new car, don't get me wrong, but mclaren should not try to feed off the f1's legend and try to make the mp4 look like something it isnt...

  • @TheMau5master Why not? They've already stated that the MP4 is the F1:s little brother and is targeted to a wider market. I think it's the right way to go. Still; They're kinda new to production cars and I think they would've made the right choice even if they'd go a completely other way, like a front mounted engine like the SLR.

It's all about laying the tracks for the future.

  • I thought about the mp4, the more this video is about F1

  • wuhu i love mc laeren and mc learn f1 + mc laeren f1 gtr

but i angry about rowan atkinson that he crushed one

  • I hope they launch a "no compromise" version of the mp4-12c. Like maybe an mp4-12c gt with a 12 cylinder engine that rakes in like 800 horses or some shit

  • This is some serious car porn, but those are some big shoes they need to fill if they expect this car to be as succesful at Le Mans as the F1 GTR was, which is the only GT car to take an overall win at Le Mans ahead of the LMPs which are alot faster than the GTs, but then again the F1 was in the old GT1 which was alot faster than todays GT1 and miles ahead of GT2 (which is this car's only way to get into Le Mans since as of this year there's no more GT1 and there's never been a GT3 class for LM)

  • @TheMau5master "Look like something it isn't..." ???!!!

What would that be then, an insanely fast road car loaded with F1 know how and a perfect platform to build (another) successful racer from, or a hum-drum, every day Audi TT wannabe from asia?

Really; WERE YOU BORN THAT STUPID OR DOES IT TAKE A LOT OF PRACTICE?

Despite what you think of the cars looks (it looks that way for a reason) it already blows it's competition well and truely away.

And who said it's trying to be the F1?

  • Yeah I know that is why i typically don't even join in on conversations about cars on Youtube.... but in this case sounded like a reasonable crowd.

  • that's a very good point, and taking that into consideration, a comparison really isn't unreasonable, but in essence the f1 is something completely different making its price tag more than reasonable again. love this unbiased car talk btw... doesn't happen very often on youtube!

  • @jeepersman11 i think u need to get the pictures up next to each other mate :P cus i cnt see it at all

  • @MonsterXQuattro its a 3.8l twin turbo v8 i think with 590+ horsepower

  • @TheMau5master : I think that although the F1 was great if you look at the specs between the 2 cars you will see why they don't mind the comparison. The car will weigh a little more, use less exotic materials and engine, but when you compare them as a street car.... you get a car that will handle well, weight an additional 400 pounds, and make only 60 less HP..... but you can buy 3 of them for the price of the F1..... take into account inflation and your are talking 4 or 5 for the same money
