dude you've got a nice collection of sony gear

it's a cool-looking machine, but i think part of the charm of vinyls is being able to see them spin around on the platter, yknow? maybe it's just me and my aspergers-like fascination with rotary motion.

I'm not to fond of the front loaders. But great music.

reminds me of the laserdisc player

That's awesome! Does it sound good compared to other tables you've listened through?

Awesome deck.
My mates dad used to have a wall mounted player, so it played them vertical. Could have been B&O but i've no idea.

great vid! i have 3 record players but on 1, the needle broke and i also have about 30 records.

i'm fascinated by these front loading ones

I have one of those but the tone arm motor is weak and so is the turntable belt plus it dosent have a transit plate.

I still have mine, bought new in 1986. It has an Audio Technica "Microline" square-shank diamond stylus, and it sounds fantastic. These are direct-drive, so virtually no flutter & wow as is common with belt drives, but the motors are extremely smooth. You can pay a lot more for a turntable, but I'm not sure you can find one with much better value.
My family was given a Sharp front loading turntable just like that one. Can this unit play both sides of the record without the need to physically turn the record over?

No, this one requires a manual flip. I know the Sharp unit you are speaking of, though. Pretty cool! There are needles on the down and up side of the tone arm to play both sides of the record.
