ExtraCare Health Services, founded in 1991 by Executive Director John Kelly, provides an individualized approach to treatment with a strong emphasis on building self esteem in our clients and helping empower them to take effective control of their lives. Our New Jersey based outpatient program has had an extremely high success rate because our board-certified and licensed counselors tailor a program just for you or a family member to help overcome the dependency on drugs or alcohol.

In addition to being Director of ExtraCare, John Kelly is a National Board Certified Addiction Specialist, Board Certified Social Worker, Certified Forensic Examiner and Fellow of the American Board of Forensic Examiners. He is well known as a consultant, evaluator, and expert witness in the field of addictive illness and criminal profiling (and its relationship to addictive illness). Because of his expertise, John Kelly has been featured on numerous network television shows, has consulted for attorneys and has been a member of the Lee Brown/President Clinton National Drug Strategy Development Plan. He has also been a guest speaker on radio station WPLJ in NYC, has contributed to articles in numerous newspapers across the country and was featured in the opinion page of US News & World Report Magazine.

In 2002, he co-authored the book, Warning Signs, because so many parents were unsure where or who to turn to when confronted with drug use (or the suspicions of) by a child. As an adjunct to the book, if you are located in a part of the country not accesible to one of our facilities in NJ, John Kelly is available for phone service consultations that will provide an indepth evaluation/assessment with the person or family member seeking treatment, to guide them in selecting a program in their area that will best suit their needs in the first step to getting help.
